McCain vs. Obama in Massachusetts

February 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

Or, “Hey, maybe my vote will matter this fall!”

It won’t, of course — Massachusetts is going Republican only in a 49 state (anti-)Obama landslide.

But the head-to-head numbers are kinda funny. In late January, McCain was beating Obama 50%-45% in a Survey USA poll (pie-chart graphic here). In mid-February, it was Obama 48, McCain 46.

Why is this? Bay Staters have experienced a young, charismatic politician with soaring rhetoric about Hope and Change, who promises to bring everyone together. Deval Patrick, Barack Obama’s national campaign co-chair.

Many don’t care for it.

Does this have legs? No. Bay Staters are not going to vote Republican come November. It’s just not happening.

But it’ll be fun to see how close it gets.
